As part of measures aimed at promoting road safety and preventing the avoidable loss of lives and property across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the FCT Police Command has directed its officers to clamp down on motorists driving against traffic—popularly known as “one-way”—and engaging in other forms of dangerous driving.

The Commissioner of Police for the FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, gave this directive in a statement issued on Sunday, 16 August 2026, by SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer.

In the statement, CP Sanusi charged all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and MOTOPOL personnel within the Command to ensure strict enforcement of traffic laws, as well as the immediate arrest and prosecution of traffic offenders.

“The directive is aimed at promoting road safety, ensuring the free flow of traffic, and preventing the avoidable loss of lives and property arising from traffic violations and reckless driving across the Federal Capital Territory,” the statement read.

Furthermore, the CP directed personnel to intensify patrols and surveillance around major highways, traffic-congested areas, junctions, and stop signs. This initiative also aims to identify and arrest traffic robbers who exploit gridlock and stops to rob unsuspecting road users of their valuables.

CP Sanusi strictly charged the officers to carry out the enforcement exercise with the utmost professionalism. Warning personnel against using the exercise as an avenue for extortion or harassment, he stressed that any officer found abusing public rights or violating this directive will face severe disciplinary action.

While urging motorists and other road users to remain law-abiding and refrain from traffic violations, the Command called on members of the public to promptly report suspicious persons and activities to the nearest police station or via the Command’s emergency hotlines: 08032003913 and 08028940883.
