Compared To The Average Tesla Employee, Elon Musk Earned 2.5 Million Times More

Corporate CEOs now earn up to 2.5 million times more than their average employees. This record-breaking pay gap is further distorted by Elon Musk, whose compensation package highlights the extreme wage disparity between top executives and median workers.

His $158 billion compensation package represents an income equivalent to that of 2,522,203 average Tesla employees; notably, this figure is purely theoretical, as the company employed approximately 135,000 individuals in 2025.

The AFL-CIO’s “CEO’s Rigged Economy” report highlights extreme executive pay, noting Elon Musk “broke the CEO pay curve” by earning 14 times more than all other S&P 500 CEOs combined. Musk’s $158 billion package skewed 2025 data, inflating average CEO pay by 1,700%; excluding him, the increase was a more modest 21%.

Moreover, when incorporating Musk’s compensation, the average CEO-to-worker pay ratio within S&P 500 companies reached a staggering 5,387-to-1 in 2025. When excluding Musk from the analysis, the average pay ratio for these firms was 312-to-1, representing an increase from the 285-to-1 ratio recorded in 2024.

In 2025, Elon Musk earned $48.7 million per hour—or $13,535 per second—meaning he matched a median Tesla employee’s $57,243 annual salary in just 4.23 seconds. His $158.3 billion pay package also surpassed Tesla’s total 2025 product sales and was 41 times higher than the company’s net income.

Furthermore, Tesla reported a federal income tax liability of $0 for 2025 on $5.68 billion in adjusted income, a result attributed to various tax incentives, including those enacted under the administration of President Donald Trump in 2025.

Notably, the report also addresses President Trump’s financial performance in 2025. According to federal disclosure filings, the President earned $2.2 billion in income throughout the year, largely stemming from cryptocurrency transactions. This figure represents a 254% increase compared to his earnings in 2024.
