This Year, Tesla Hopes To Increase Production At A Major German Factory
Tesla plans to ramp up production at its major factory in Grünheide, Germany, near Berlin this year. In addition, the electric car manufacturer intends to hire 3,500 new employees, and the factory is set to serve new markets. Tesla sees demand for its electric cars picking up and profit figures improving, the company reports in the annual report of its German production division.
The annual report states that Tesla forecasts a significant increase in production volume for this year compared to last year. The electric car manufacturer has managed to boost sales recently. Last year, sales suffered, among other things, from criticism of CEO Elon Musk for his cost-cutting measures implemented at the behest of US President Donald Trump and for making a hand gesture that resembled the Nazi salute.
The Gigafactory in Grünheide is Tesla’s only production site in Europe. The Model Y is currently produced at the factory. The company plans to integrate the entire chain within the factory, from the manufacture of battery cells to complete vehicles. By the end of 2025, approximately 11,000 people will be working at the site.
Tesla says that the expansion remains dependent on economic conditions. The company warns that escalating geopolitical tensions and potential supply chain disruptions could negatively impact the outlook. Plans for full battery cell production in Grünheide are also dependent on the market situation.
Earlier this year, Tesla already announced that the company plans to increase production in Grünheide to 7,500 vehicles per week.
