Speeding Blamed As Lexus RX 350 Crashes Into Toyota Land Cruiser At Lagos Coastal Road Junction
A road crash involving a Lexus RX 350 crossover SUV and a Toyota Land Cruiser has been reported at the Coastal Road Junction in Lagos, with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) warning motorists to avoid speeding and drive with caution.
According to LASTMA, the collision occurred when the white Lexus RX 350 collided with the black Toyota Land Cruiser, with preliminary information indicating that overspeeding was responsible for the crash.
Footage shared by LASTMA showed extensive damage to both luxury SUVs, with the Toyota Land Cruiser appearing to have suffered the heavier impact. Its passenger-side bodywork was severely crumpled, with both side doors crushed in the collision.
The traffic management agency disclosed that a casualty was recorded in the incident, although it did not provide further details about the victim. It noted that the crash had minimal impact on traffic flow at the time of its report.
“A road crash occurred when a white Lexus 350 Jeep collided with a black Toyota Land at Coastal Road Junction. The crash reportedly occurred as a result of overspeeding. A casualty was recorded, while the incident is currently having minimal impact on traffic flow,” LASTMA said in its report.
“Police officer is on ground attending to the situation,” LASTMA said, adding that its personnel were managing and diverting traffic to ensure the continuous flow of vehicular movement around the area.
The agency also urged motorists to exercise caution while using the road, particularly around areas where construction activities, traffic diversions or other road-related hazards may require drivers to reduce their speed.
It will be recalled that in January, a contractor’s worker working on the shoulder of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway reportedly lost their life after being knocked down by the reckless driver of a speeding Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
The January incident raised concerns over motorists’ conduct around active construction areas, prompting the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, to threaten closure of the road to traffic if indiscipline by motorists continues to endanger lives and disrupt construction work.
