According To Ford, The Raptor Family Will Soon Grow Significantly
The Ford Raptor nameplate, introduced on the 2010 F-150, identifies high-performance, off-road-capable variants, though it is currently available on only a select few models in Ford’s lineup.
This perspective may soon shift, as Ford Performance boss Will Ford recently informed the Australian publication *Drive* that the future of the Raptor badge is significantly more expansive than previously perceived. His remarks hold particular weight for Australia and international markets, where the Ranger currently serves as the primary vehicle offered with the Raptor designation. Furthermore, the report highlights strategic intentions to extend the availability of the Raptor lineup on a global scale.
A New Beast May Be Brewing
Ford is expanding its global Raptor lineup, with reports suggesting the development of an off-road supercar inspired by Dakar rally vehicles. Future models may incorporate hybrid technology to boost both performance and efficiency, capitalizing on the rising demand for high-performance, overlanding-ready vehicles.
“We are deeply committed to expanding the Raptor presence globally, spanning both North America and key international markets such as Australia,” stated Will Ford. “As we celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Raptor lineup this year, we are pleased to witness the significant, organic enthusiasm that has developed for the brand worldwide.”
The Competition In The Off-Road Segment Intensifies
Ford’s strategic expansion arrives as competing automakers intensify their investment in dedicated off-road programs. Notably, Ram recently reintroduced the 1500 RHO with a robust 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8 engine delivering 540 horsepower, while the broader high-performance segment remains highly competitive against the F-150 Raptor R’s 720-horsepower output. Meanwhile, Toyota continues to position its Trailhunter series as an overlanding-focused complement to its performance-oriented TRD Pro models.
Regardless of the specific path Ford chooses, future additions to the lineup are poised to be well-received, as Raptor models remain among the manufacturer’s most compelling offerings for both on-road utility and off-road performance.
