AFD Partners With LASWA, LAMATA To Develop Water Routes And Quality Bus Corridors, Purchase 75 Electric Vessels

Agence Française de Developpement (AFD), partners with LASWA to develop 15 water routes, purchase 75 electric vessels.

Additionally, AFD is funding LAMATA’s projects, including Quality Bus Corridors and interchanges at Marina and Mile 2.

Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) and Ochenuel Mobility, has concluded their two-day Sustainable Urban Mobility Course (SUMCOURSE), with a strong emphasis on promoting non-motorized transport as well as the implementation of green wave transport corridors.

During the two-day course, participants from across the continent engaged in lively discussions and explored innovative strategies to prioritize walking, cycling as the preferred modes of urban mobility.

The course used to train urban planners, transport engineers, and stakeholders simulated conversations on the impact of traffic management strategies on traffic flow, air quality, and public health. The results show that giving priority to non-motorized transport users will significantly reduce congestion and improve air quality.

David Margonztern, a Senior Transport Specialist at Agence Française de Developpement (AFD), gave, while given a presentation on the organization’s transportation and urban mobility projects in Nigeria, highlighted investments in trains, the Lagos Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, and water transportation.

AFD is currently collaborating with LASWA to develop 15 water routes for the “Omi Eko” project and will purchase 75 electric vessels. Additionally, AFD is funding LAMATA’s projects, including Quality Bus Corridors and interchanges at Marina and Mile 2.
