Alfa Romeo Continues To Develop Giulia And Stelvio’s Replacements

In recent days, rumors have emerged that Alfa Romeo has abandoned the development of new generations of the Giulia and Stelvio, after their names did not appear in Stellantis’ product plan until 2030.

Instead, the official presentation only listed a “new D-segment model (under consideration),” which immediately fueled speculation that the brand’s two key models had been quietly canceled.

But Stellantis is now saying that there is no reason to panic.

“Giulia and Stelvio are still in development.”

After questions from Carscoops, a Stellantis spokesperson confirmed that Alfa Romeo is still working on successors to the current Giulia and Stelvio.

According to the company, all future models are currently being evaluated for individual markets, including North America, to find the best balance between brand positioning, customer expectations and long-term business sustainability.

The statement also recalls the plan presented during the Stellantis Investor Day in May. Alfa Romeo is preparing a refreshed Junior, a new generation of compact SUV that will succeed the Tonale, by the end of the decade. There is also a new compact hatchback inspired by the brand’s legendary models, and exclusive models from the Bottega Fuoriserie program are also mentioned.

However, the official confirmation leaves more questions than answers. It is not known whether Alfa Romeo plans to develop two separate new generations or whether the Giulia and Stelvio will be combined into a single D-segment model to reduce development costs. Such a possibility has arisen precisely because the new plans no longer mention two models, but only one from the D-segment.

Earlier information said that the successor to the Giulia would abandon the classic sedan body and become a kind of fastback crossover.

So far, only a development prototype of the future Stelvio has been seen in public, photographed in 2025, and later, patent drawings were leaked that revealed its design. Shortly after, Alfa Romeo again delayed the model’s development.

It seems that the brand is once again adjusting its strategy to respond to changes in the market and find the best way to continue developing its most important models.
