All-electric BMW iX xDrive60 M Sport electric SUV become the latest addition to the Vatican fleet.

Like the famous G-Class-based Pope, the BMW iX xDrive60 wears the custom license plate “SCV 1”.

Pope’s gift from BMW comes weeks after a customized BMW motorbike bearing the signature of Pope fetched $154,180.

The BMW Group has handed over a brand new iX xDrive60 to Pope Leo XIV, making the brand’s flagship electric SUV the latest addition to the Vatican fleet since the pontiff’s inaugural mass in Saint Peter’s Square on Sunday May 18th 2025.

BMW CEO Oliver Zipse and Massimiliano Di Silvestre, the President and CEO of BMW Italia, personally handed over the unique eco-friendly iX xDrive60 to Pope Leo XIV.

“We had the privilege of delivering a BMW iX60 to Pope Leo XIV because it demonstrates our approach to environmental protection, a topic that we know is very important to the Holy Father and in which we deeply believe,” declared Massimiliano Di Silvestre, President and CEO of BMW Italy.

Like the famous G-Class-based Pope, the iX xDrive60 will wear the custom license plate “SCV 1”, which translates to Stato della Città del Vaticano (State of the City of the Vatican) while the number 1 symbolizes that it is for the Sovereign Pontiff.

The xDrive60 handed over to the pope features an M Sport Package and a dual-motor setup, which allows the 544-hp EV to do 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 123.6 mph (199km/h).

Pope’s gift from BMW comes weeks after a specially customized BMW R 18 Transcontinental bearing the signature of Pope Leo XIV fetched 130,000 euros (over $154,180) during Motorworld Munich on October 18, 2025.
