Bugatti CEO Vows Never To Leave Car Keys Inside His Hypercars After Thief Stole His $2.7 Million Chiron

Bugatti CEO Mate Rimac has vowed never to leave the keys inside his hypercars again after his personal Bugatti Chiron, worth approximately $2.7 million, was stolen from the company’s production and technology campus in Croatia.
Captured by CCTV cameras, the incident happened on Wednesday, October 28, when a man who had reportedly visited the company seeking employment spotted the Chiron parked with its keys inside and drove away.
Reacting to the CCTV footage, Rimac later revealed in another video that he had routinely left the keys inside his Chiron and the all-electric Rimac Nevera, which he also made available to employees, for years without experiencing any security issues.

While narrating the incident, Rimac said he immediately contacted the police after someone alerted employees that an unfamiliar person had driven away in the hypercar. He added that his team used the vehicle’s onboard telemetry system to monitor its location, speed and fuel level.
After discovering that the stolen Chiron was heading towards neighbouring Slovenia, Rimac said he jumped into his Porsche 911 to join the pursuit, despite the thief having approximately an hour’s head start.

The Chiron subsequently crossed into Austria, where police officers reportedly intercepted the rare, seven-figure hypercar at a petrol station and arrested the suspect, identified as a Croatian man in his mid-30s.
Rimac said the suspect told him that he had visited the company looking for a job but decided to take the Chiron after noticing the keys inside. Although Rimac said he did not intend to press charges personally, he acknowledged that authorities would pursue the case because of the hypercar’s considerable value.
While praising Austrian and Croatian police for their role in bringing the unusual cross-border pursuit to an end, Rimac noted that the recovered Chiron sustained some damage during the incident.
