According to Chinese media reports, the auto blogger and his team were found guilty after releasing a crash-test video that falsely appeared to show the doors of Xiaomi’s SU7 failed to open after a collision.
Posted on Gao’s video-sharing account, which has about 1 million followers, the clip went viral and generated roughly 3 million views in August 2024.

According to a report by the Beijing Daily, the court found that Gao had deliberately tampered with the car’s auxiliary battery before filming, using footage of a battery damaged by a forklift to mislead viewers.
Like Xiaomi, BYD was also involved in a Chinese online defamation case. Following a second-instance court ruling, EV blogger “Long Ge Talks EVs” was ordered to apologize and pay 2 million yuan ($293,000) in damages, according to CarNewsChina.
