Defective Front Facing Camera Gets Honda In A Lawsuit

Honda is facing a US class action lawsuit over alleged defective front-camera sensors in its Honda Sensing safety system, which the automaker reportedly failed to fix despite knowing about the malfunctions.

The class-action lawsuit, initiated by Virginia resident Beverly Mason, asserts that the Honda Sensing system, which utilizes a windscreen-mounted front camera to detect road hazards and maintain lane positioning, is prone to significant malfunctions. According to the filing, these defects can trigger persistent warning messages or lead to a total system failure.

Mason, who purchased a 2018 Honda Clarity in 2019, reported encountering recurring Honda Sensing malfunctions as of last December. She incurred repair costs amounting to nearly $3,000, noting that these repairs provide no assurance against future recurrences of the defect. The affected vehicle models named in the litigation include the 2018–2025 Honda Odyssey, 2018–2025 Honda Pilot, 2022–2025 Honda Civic, 2023–2025 Honda HR-V, and 2018–2021 Honda Clarity.

Filed in California, this lawsuit follows a similar action regarding identical Honda Sensing front-camera defects. It alleges Honda knowingly sold vehicles with faulty sensors, forcing owners to manage recurring system errors and expensive repairs independently.
