Ford Recalls The Explorer EcoBoost Model
Ford has issued its 64th recall of the year, affecting six 2026 Ford Explorers due to potential engine failure linked to connecting rod bearings. Ford identified the defect in a specific 30-minute production window, allowing for a swift and limited response. Here are the details.
The American automaker has recalled six 2026 Explorers with 2.3L EcoBoost engines due to potential connecting rod bearing failure. According to the NHTSA, the defect can cause engine seizure, power loss, and fire risk. Ford has identified the issue within a specific 30-minute production window and will replace the engine long blocks free of charge.
Ford CEO Jim Farley promised to address powertrain issues quickly, and this small recall of just six 2026 Explorers delivers on that pledge. Following reports of seized #2 connecting rod bearings, investigators traced the defect to a specific 30-minute production window at the Dearborn Engine Plant. While the root cause of the crankshaft measurement shift remains under investigation, the recall process was initiated on August 13, 2026. Given Ford’s high sales volume, the impact is minimal and expected to remain limited to these specific units.
Despite the limited scope, this engine defect poses a safety risk due to potential power loss. Owners should watch for knocking sounds signaling engine failure. Ford will notify owners by August 26, 2026; customers can verify their vehicle via the NHTSA website or by calling 1-866-436-7332. Ford will replace the engine long blocks free of charge. While Ford’s EcoBoost engines have faced past reliability issues, the 2.3L Explorer engine remains generally dependable.
