Install Tracking Devices : FCT Police urges car owners, busting car theft syndicate, recover two stolen vehicles.

Three suspects arrested by the police confessed to refurbishing and reselling stolen vehicles as newer models.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has urged vehicle owners in Nigeria to install tracking devices and other anti-theft systems to aid prompt recovery of their stolen vehicles.

This advise follows a distress call received by Durumi Division regarding the theft of a Toyota Corolla, which was later tracked to a workshop in Durumi, where it was discovered undergoing illegal refurbishment.

At the time of recovery, the colour of the stolen Toyota Corolla was being altered in an attempt to evade detection and facilitate a quick resale, according to a statement by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, on Sunday.

“On April 11, 2025, following a distress call received by Durumi Division regarding the theft of a Toyota Corolla, 2005 model, gold in colour, with registration number KUJ 208 DA, stolen from the owner’s residence, operatives of the Division immediately swung into action.”

A further search of the premises also led to the recovery of another suspected stolen vehicle, a red Toyota Corolla with registration number GWA 844 CK, which was previously reported stolen from a residence in Jikwoyi.

“Three suspects—Steven Musa, David Dalyol (a painter), and Ibrahim Mohammed (a mechanic)—were arrested at the scene. During interrogation, they confessed to being members of a car theft syndicate operating across Wuse, Central Area, Jikwoyi, and Bwari axis of the FCT.”

The FCT Command said that the suspects admitted to stealing several vehicles, refurbishing them, and reselling them as newer models, adding that they are currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ajao S. Adewale, urges vehicle owners to install tracking devices and other anti-theft systems to aid prompt recovery efforts.
