Stellantis made several new announcements during its Investor Day 2026 event, among them being a big product assault focused on the company’s four worldwide brands: Ram, Jeep, Peugeot, and Fiat.
By 2030, Stellantis plans to introduce at least 60 new vehicles and 50 major model updates across all brands, including 39 ICE/mild hybrid vehicles, 29 battery-electric vehicles, 24 hybrid electric vehicles, and 15 plug-in hybrid or range-extended electric vehicles. In addition to providing information on each brand, the presentation included some intriguing facts about what American consumers could anticipate from the Jeep brand.
Petrol Or Hybrid? Or Both?
The most unexpected is that there will be a combustion engine version of the Jeep Recon all-electric off-roader available at U.S. showrooms this summer. The Recon, an all-electric off-road SUV that was first unveiled in 2022, hasn’t even made it to U.S. markets yet, yet Jeep is already discussing a significant powertrain upgrade.
The Recon will get an internal combustion engine (ICE) version, according to Stellantis. The manufacturer did not specify when the Recon ICE model will go on sale or what kind of petrol engine it will use in the vehicle.
The Recon’s petrol engine might receive some hybrid assistance, if not a full hybrid or PHEV system, given Stellantis’ product plan. Now, some hints are provided by the Jeep Recon’s STLA Large multi-energy platform, which is also shared by the Wagoneer S EV and the brand-new Cherokee hybrid.
STLA Large is BEV-native, but it can also support internal combustion engines (ICE), plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV), and hybrid vehicles (HEV). We cannot completely rule out the chance that the Recon will acquire a self-charging hybrid drivetrain similar to the new Cherokee, given the increased demand for hybrids in the U.S. market. A 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and two motors located directly in the front-mounted hybrid eCVT gearbox assembly make up this dual-motor hybrid system.
While the other motor is connected to the primary drive ring gear to supply direct power to the wheels and augment acceleration at low speeds, the first motor serves solely as a generator for the batteries. The automatic rear-axle separation mechanism contributes to the powertrain’s combined 210 horsepower and 230 pound-feet of torque and estimated fuel economy of 37 MPG.
The Recon Is Also Compatible With the Hurricane Straight-Six Engine
