Kia Niro EV And PHEV Gets The Chopping Block, Hybrid To Remain
The disappearance of the electric Niro EV is easy to explain. The Kia Niro and the Kia EV3, which is currently wildly popular in Europe, are very close in terms of price and size.
The 4.42-metre-long Kia Niro EV starts at €38,995 and offers 204 hp and an electric range of 460 kilometers for that price. The EV3 has a starting price of €36,995 and features a 204 hp electric heart, and the entry-level model can travel up to 436 kilometers. While the Niro EV is available with only one powertrain, the Kia EV3 is also available with 204 hp and an 81.4 kWh battery, offering a range of no less than 605 kilometers.
With a starting price of €40,995, it is not much more expensive than the entry-level Niro EV with a much smaller range. On top of that, the Kia EV3 also has a version with an 81.4 kWh battery, all-wheel drive, and 265 hp. In short, the Kia EV3 has taken a significant bite out of the Niro EV’s relevance.
