FG approves Phase 1A of the 68-km Lagos Green Line Rail Project, to move over 500,000 passengers daily.
To link Marina to Lekki Free Trade Zone, with about 17 stations serving key locations including V.I, Ajah, and the wider Lekki corridor.
Green Line will serve up to 500,000 passengers daily at launch, rising to over a million as demand grows.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the Phase 1A of the Lagos Green Line project, a 68-km rail line that is projected to move up to 35,000 passengers per hour in each direction and over 500,000 passengers daily at launch.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, disclosed this on Friday via his official X handle, commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for the milestone.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Lagos State, I express my sincere gratitude to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council for the approval of Phase 1A of the Lagos Green Line Rail Project.”
The Green Line will span approximately 68 kilometres, linking Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone, with about 17 stations serving key locations including Victoria Island, Ajah, and the wider Lekki corridor.
“It will serve up to 500,000 passengers daily at inception with the capacity to increase to about one million over time,” Sanwo-Olu said of the Green Line designed to complement existing rail lines, including the Blue Line and Red Line.
“With the ability to move up to 35,000 passengers per hour in each direction, the line will reduce travel time and relieve pressure on our road network.”
“This project reflects our commitment to improving mobility, supporting economic growth, and enhancing the quality of life for Lagosians. We value the continued support of the Federal Government and remain focused on delivering a system that meets the needs of our people.”
