Mercedes Accomplished A One Megawatt Charging Record

The AMG GT XX concept car set a new standard in electric vehicle charging speed, reaching an incredible 1,041 kW of charging power at the prototype charging station.
Having previously broken 25 records on the Nardo race track, this technological gem from Affalterbach has now demonstrated outstanding charging capabilities. The megawatt power was reached only 0.5 seconds after the start of charging and was maintained for about two and a half minutes.
Up to 1,176 amps of current flowed through the specially developed CCS cable, enabling the transfer of 17.3 kWh of energy in just one minute—enough for a 125-kilometre range according to the WLTP standard.
This success is the result of an innovative battery developed in Affalterbach, inspired by Formula 1. The battery uses cylindrical NCMA cells and direct non-conductive oil cooling that maintains the optimal temperature of more than 3,000 cells.
Mercedes-Benz and Alpitronic have jointly developed a revolutionary charging infrastructure that will be available at Mercedes-Benz charging stations in Europe and North America from 2026.
