Mercedes-AMG GT 43 Coupe Now Has A Four-Cylinder Engine
You knew it would happen sooner or later: the Mercedes-AMG GT also goes four-cylinder. It gets the heavily upgraded 2.0 that is also in the SL 43 and is therefore called the AMG GT 43 Coupé.
The Mercedes-AMG GT was presented last year as a fierce 63 4Matic+ and as the also quite sporty 55 4Matic+, both with the 4.0 biturbo V8 in the nose. However, the partly related Mercedes-AMG SL was already available at that time with a 2.0 four-cylinder as the SL 43, and that is why we suspected that the Mercedes-AMG GT might also eventually get that power source. That moment has now arrived, although the version fully called the Mercedes-AMG GT 43 Coupé is a lot stronger than the SL with four cylinders.
In the Mercedes-AMG GT 43, the 2.0 with an electronically controlled turbo produces 421 hp rather than 381 hp. If desired, another 14 hp of power is temporarily added thanks to a 48-volt starter generator. The maximum torque is 500 Nm and is sent to the rear wheels via a nine-speed Speedshift automatic transmission. It gives it a sprint time from 0 to 100 km/h of 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 280 km/h. For comparison, for the SL, this is 4.9 seconds and 275 km/h, respectively; for the AMG GT 63, it is 3.2 seconds and 295 km/h.
The Mercedes-AMG GT 43 Coupé has a similar chassis as its more powerful brothers, but adaptive AMG Ride Control damping is an option. Steering rear wheels are also an option; up to 100 km/h, they steer in opposite directions, and above that, they steer with the front wheels for a more direct steering response. An electronically controlled differential, active aerodynamics, and a fixed rear wing are also on the options list. The big question now is: How much does it all cost? You can bet that because of its more modest power source, the Mercedes-AMG GT 43 Coupé will be considerably cheaper than its more powerful brothers.
