Mercedes-Benz recalls 2022 EQS 450 and S-Class (S500 and S580) to fix eCall Emergency call system.

The recall was due to a software bug in the control unit that may restrict or disable the emergency call system.

Emergency responders might not be directed to the vehicle in the event of an accident.

This is the second time in a year that Mercedes-Benz will issue a recall due to eCall problems.





Last February, it recalled 1.3 million vehicles to fix a problem with the communication module for the eCall emergency call system.

Daimler’s Mercedes-Benz has recalled 2022 model all-electric and combustion-engined versions of its flagship sedans due to a software bug in the control unit that may restrict or disable the emergency call (eCall) system.

As explained in a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSH) recall document, the problem is expected to affect 100 percent of more than 1,600 model year 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS 450, S500 and S580 sedans.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSH) explains :

“The eCall function might be restricted or not be available at vehicle start-up. Therefore, customers might not be able to be connected to emergency assistance.

“In this case, emergency responders might not be directed to the vehicle in the event of an accident, which could increase the consequence of any injury sustained in the accident for the vehicle occupants.”

Dealerships have been informed of the pending safety recall on January 4th while the planned owner notification date is listed as February 25th, 2022.

This is the second time in a year that Mercedes-Benz will issue a recall due to eCall problems. In February 2021, the automaker recalled almost 1.3 million vehicles to fix a problem with the communication module for the eCall emergency call system.

The affected vehicles from 2016 through 2021 model years could indicate the wrong location to emergency services when used in case of an incident on the road.
