Red Line Begins Free Passenger Operations
The Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line will begin partial, non-fee-paying passenger operations from Wednesday, 28th August 2024, ahead of the commencement of full commercial operations.
During the trial tun, the Red Line trains will run four trips per day between Oyingbo in Lagos State and Agbado in Ogun State, according to the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).
In addition to providing a reliable and affordable transportation option for commuters, the 27-km Red Line first phase will reduce traffic congestion and improving the quality of life for Lagos residents.
FRSC To Launch App For Licence, Number Plates Check – Deploys Radar Speed Gun To Catch Speeding Vehicles
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is set to launch a new mobile app in September 2024 designed for the verification of licences and plate numbers.
Elizabeth Jayeola, the Sector Public Education Officer of FRSC Lagos State Command, disclosed this on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday.
The FRSC spokesperson also identified over speeding and aggressive driving among others as the major causes of accidents in Lagos. She also revealed that radar gun technology had already deployed on the newly renovated Lagos Third Mainland Bridge to catch vehicles over speeding.
Insecurity : Edo Police Ordered To Arrest Drivers Of Vehicles With Tinted Glass, Covered Number Plates
Edo State Commissioner of Police CP Nemo Edwin-Iwo has ordered the immediate arrests of individuals plying the roads with tinted vehicles, unregistered, or with covered plate numbers and impounding of such vehicles.
A statement by SP Moses Joel Yamu, the Commands spokesperson, says that the order was to curb the menace of criminals, especially kidnapping, robbery and cultism in Edo State.
Edo State joins a list of Nigerian states that has banned vehicles with tinted glass and covered/no number plates, amidst rising terrorism, militancy and kidnapping in the country. Delta, Lagos and Benue have also made the move.
Customs FOU ‘A’ Intercepts 15 Imported Vehicles, Others Worth ₦8 Billion In July
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A, says it made a total of 70 seizures valued at over ₦8 Billion (₦8,098,001,199) in July 2024.
Comptroller of the unit, Kola Oladeji, disclosed this to journalists in Ikeja on Friday, 30 July 2024. He noted that the anti-smuggling operations of the unit resulted in the arrest of 14 male suspects.
Notable among the seizures are 15 imported vehicles and 11,700 litres of Premium Motor Spirit. Others are 6,168 pieces of donkey skin; 37,630 sachets of Tramadol; 11,820 new machetes and 4,740 bags of foreign parboiled rice.
