New two-lane Nigeria-Cameroon Border Bridge commissioned, replaces 70+ years single-lane bridge at the border.
New bridge is expected to improve the efficiency of the logistic chain of transport, including by the removal of traffic.
Also commissioned is the new Joint Border Post, a project under Transport Facilitation Programme for the Bamenda-Enugu Corridor.
The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari and the President of Cameroon, Paul Biya, have officially commissioned the new two-lane Cross River Bridge at the Nigeria-Cameroon Border at Mfum/Ekok, and the new Joint Border Post at Mfum.
Dignitaries at the inauguration on Thursday includes Amb. Zubairu Dada, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, who represented Buhari, Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola and Cameroon’s Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Djoumessi.
The newly constructed two-lane border bridge, which replaces the 70+ years single-lane bridge at the border, is expected to improve the efficiency of the logistic chain of transport by the removal of traffic and non-traffic barriers along the transnational highway and corridor.
The Joint Border Bridge is one of the projects under the Transport Facilitation Programme for the Bamenda-Enugu Corridor otherwise known as the Nigeria/Cameroon Multinational Highway and Transport Facilitation Programme (NCMH&TFP).
NCMH+TFP aim at improving relations between Nigeria and Cameroon through the facilitation of movement of people, goods and services between both countries. It is also a major economic route connecting the ECOWAS countries & their Economic Community of Central African States counterparts.
