Nissan Ariya NISMO Performance EV Makes Its European Debut

Nissan is spicing up the electric car scene with the European debut of the Ariya NISMO. Unveiled on World EV Day, this all-electric speedster celebrates NISMO’s grand return to Europe, promising an exhilarating blend of power and sustainability.
The Ariya NISMO comes with a 320kW powertrain that pushes out 600 Nm of torque. That translates to a 0-100 km/h sprint in a mere 5 seconds, putting many gasoline-powered SUVs to shame. Even at highway speeds, it promises an impressive acceleration, going from 80 km/h-120 km/h in just 2.4 seconds.
The fastest Ariya has been meticulously tuned to deliver exceptional control and stability. After all, earning a NISMO badge has to mean something. It boasts increased turning and lateral force, even surpassing the legendary GT-R NISMO. With its modified suspension, balanced chassis, and speed-sensitive power steering, this EV should hug the road like a true sports car. At least, that’s what the press release claims.
Ariya’s sleek and aerodynamic-friendly design, featuring elements like a canard shape, extended lower bumper, and rear spoiler, results in a substantial improvement in drag coefficient compared to the standard Ariya. This translates to better downforce and stability at high speeds.
The 87kWh battery provides ample range for daily driving and spirited weekend adventures. When it’s time to recharge, the Ariya NISMO’s 22kW on-board charger ensures quick and convenient top-ups using AC. Nissan didn’t share any details of DC charging speeds, which means the NISMO version supports the same 130 kW as its “civilian” sibling and can top up the battery from 20 to 80% in about 30 minutes.
Step inside, and you’ll find a cabin that feels both sporty and luxurious. The suede-like seats offer exceptional support, while red stitching on the steering wheel and signature red accents throughout add a touch of NISMO flair. The blackened open-pore wood trim elevates the ambience, creating a sophisticated and modern feel.
The Ariya NISMO will be available in four striking colours, including the stealthy NISMO Stealth Grey with a black roof. All colour options feature a contrasting red accent around the lower body trim, adding a dash of visual excitement. Nissan’s latest addition is set to hit European roads in January 2025, with availability in all markets where the standard Ariya is currently sold (excluding Cyprus, Malta, and Northern Ireland).
Now, reading the press release will make you feel as if the new Ariya is an electric monster on wheels that truly deserves the NISMO badge. Unfortunately, many brand purists will disagree. The NISMO Ariya is exactly 0.1 seconds quicker than the e-4ORCE version from 0 to 100 km/h. That’s gonna be hard to notice for anyone. Where it will truly shine is the handling. With the completely reworked suspension, the NISMO version should feel more planted and it should hide its weight better. With nearly 2,270 kg of heft, there’s plenty to hide.
