Obey Traffic Rules, Don’t Drive Against Traffic, Lagos Urges Motorists
Lagos State Govt warn motorists to stop driving against traffic as this will ‘stop the confusion on our roads’
The Lagos task force says motorists caught driving against the traffic faces up to a year in prison if convicted.
The convicted motorists will also forfeit their vehicles to the Lagos State government.

The Lagos State Government on Monday urged motorist to ‘Obey Traffic Rules‘ and also to driving against the traffic as this will not only prevent traffic accidents but also reduce traffic build ups on the roads.
This advise, which it said will ‘stop the confusion on our roads‘, is a reminder to the punishments that have been designed for motorists caught driving against the traffic, which now includes facing up to a year in prison if convicted.
The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (task force) had in May announced that motorists caught driving against the traffic will now face up to a year in prison if convicted, in addition to forfeiting of their vehicles to the government.

Part of the statement reads :
“Despite the fact that a lot of lives have been cut short by vehicles driving against the traffic, many motorists are still in the habit of driving against the traffic, putting pedestrians and other road users’ lives in danger. No one will be spared in enforcing the law forthwith”
“Forthwith, the task force will start prosecuting drivers of vehicles impounded for one-way (driving against traffic). It is appalling that despite the seizure of vehicles and their auction after obtaining a court order, a lot of motorists still drive against the traffic”
“The agency will now implement the traffic law against drivers driving against the normal flow of traffic, which stipulates one-year imprisonment for the drivers and the forfeiture of the vehicles”
