Owners Of Ford Mavericks Claim That Their Vehicles Start Themselves

Published

on

Remote starting is an increasingly common feature, allowing owners to start their cars via key fob or app to precondition cabin temperatures.

Ford Maverick owners are reporting a concerning issue where their vehicles start autonomously. Reports from various owners, including discussions in private Facebook groups, indicate these random activations have occurred repeatedly, with some experiencing the glitch over a dozen times.

While the cause is unconfirmed, Ford Maverick’s remote start is a likely suspect. Key fob activation requires a specific sequence, making accidental pocket presses unlikely. Conversely, the FordPass app lacks secondary security, making it easier for users—or those with phone access—to trigger the engine inadvertently.

The report suggests several potential causes for these autonomous starts, specifically relating to the Maverick’s hybrid system. While it is speculated that a software protocol triggers the engine when the hybrid battery pack’s state of charge drops too low, these findings indicate some owner confusion regarding the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system.

In PHEV models, the engine may initiate to circulate lubricants and prevent sediment accumulation in the fuel lines; however, for safety reasons, this occurs only while the vehicle is in motion, not while stationary. Furthermore, it is possible that some occurrences are simply a result of human error, as modern, whisper-quiet engines can lead drivers to inadvertently leave their vehicles running after parking.
