Ford Restarts European Orders For The Mustang GTD
Ford has once again opened up the Mustang GTD, the company’s most extreme road car, to customers in Europe. Pre-orders opened on September 14, 2026, and will close on October 16, giving customers about a month to apply.
This is not a repeat of the old offering. Ford is limiting European production to 500 units, pricing the car well above €300,000 before options, and offering the Spirit of America trim that wasn’t available last time.
Ford has not released a detailed breakdown by country, but the reopening of applications suggests that previously allocated quotas were not filled or that Ford wants a new round of applicants before finalizing production.
According to published estimates, the GTD costs €359,900 in Germany and Romania, €366,000 in Belgium and £315,000 in the UK, which after currency conversion represents a higher price than the US price, and the difference reflects taxes and homologation costs that are added to the price of the car itself.
Austria and Norway show how much local taxes can affect the final price, which for the Mustang GTD is around 525,500 euros and 480,000 euros, respectively.
Roadworthiness remains an issue. Ford’s German website still states that European road registration is in the approval phase, meaning some buyers could end up with a car that is legal for track use but not for public roads.
None of this seems to be dampening demand for the Spirit of America edition, which combines a Performance White exterior with Race Red and Lightning Blue stripes that run across the hood and side sills. Ford describes it as a reinterpretation of the Mustang’s three-stripe motif “for a modern era,” and buyers can secure one-of-a-kind status with an Extended Color Palette option.
When you put aside the different color combinations and graphics, the Mustang GTD’s main selling points are the numbers that most Mustangs can never match. Ford claims 826 horsepower from its supercharged V8 engine, which puts this car in a completely different league from any other model that bears the Mustang horse logo, road-legal or not.
Ford is positioning the GTD as the pinnacle of the Ford Racing lineup, rivaling the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, setting a new upper limit on Mustang price and performance.
The Mustang GTD’s capabilities were developed at the Nürburgring, where Ford spent a significant portion of development trying to achieve lap times that would justify the car’s price compared to its European competitors.
