Stellantis Temporarily Shuts Down Plants In France And Italy

Stellantis is temporarily shutting down its car factory in Poissy, France, and is also doing the same in shifts at a factory in Pomigliano, Italy. The decision affects models from DS, Opel, Fiat, and Alfa Romeo.
Temporary factory closures are common, but they are certainly not a good sign. The Stellantis factory in Poissy, France, will close for three weeks starting October 13, Reuters reports. The Opel Mokka and Citroën DS3 are produced there, but that won’t be the case for a while. 2,000 people work in Poissy, and according to the same report, they will be kept employed as much as possible. This is also being done by providing training, for example.
The Pomigliano factory, near Naples, will also be temporarily closed. According to Reuters, no cars will be produced there between September 29 and October 6, and the 3,800 employees will be on mandatory leave. This means the Alfa Romeo and Fiat Panda (older model, ‘Pandina’) will not be produced for a while. The underlying lack of demand for the Tonale can be partly attributed to US import tariffs. The Tonale is also available in the US and even had an American sister model called the Dodge Hornet. Production of that Hornet has been completely suspended for the time being.
