Elon Musk unveils Tesla Cybercab, a 2-seater self-driving robotaxi with no steering wheel, pedals or rear window.

When it becomes available by 2027, Musk said that Cybercab will cost less than $30,000 and only 20 cents (15p) per mile to run.

At its “We, Robot” event, Tesla also showcased its updated Optimus robots and unveiled Robovan – a 20-seater self-driving bus.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has unveiled the firm’s highly anticipated self-driving robotaxi, the Cybercab, at a flashy event called “We, Robot,” held at the Warner Bros Studios in Burbank, California.

Speaking at the event, Musk explained that fully self-driving car with no pedals, steering wheels or rear window, will be safer than those driven by people.

Musk, who arrived at the event using the futuristic-looking Cybercab, said : “You can do whatever you want while you’re in this comfortable little lounge, and when you get out, you will be at your destination.”

When the Robotaxi becomes available before the end of 2026, Musk added that all-electric vehicle will cost less than $30,000 and only 20 cents (15p) per mile to run.

According to Musk, the Robotaxi will have no charging port to charge its electric batteries. Instead, it will drive over an inductive charging station to receive power wirelessly.

Also at the “We, Robot,” event on Thursday October 10th, Tesla also showcased its updated Optimus robots and unveiled its Robovan – a larger self-driving bus with enough space to seat at least 20 passengers.

Like traditional vans with steering wheels driven by humans, Musk claims that the self-driving Robovan could be configured to transport goods around a city autonomously.

Musk said : “If you want to transport a sports team somewhere or you’re looking to really get the cost of travel down to 5-10 cents a mile, you can use the Robovan.”
