China’s GWM Begins Production At Its New Brazilian Factory Formerly Owned By Mercedes-Benz

China’s Great Wall Motor begins production at its Brazilian factory acquired from Mercedes parent, Daimler in 2021.

Witnessed by Brazilian President, the first production models were the Haval H6, the Power P30, and the Haval H9.

Earlier this month, GWM officially announced its entry into the lucrative supercar segment currently dominated by Yangwang in China.

Great Wall Motor Company Limited (GWM) on Friday August 15th 2025 officially begun production of Made-in-Brazil vehicles at its new factory in Iracemápolis, São Paulo – the Chinese automaker’s first facility in the Americas.

Witnessed by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the first production models to roll off the assembly line are the Haval H6 hybrid SUV (the first car), the Power P30 pickup truck, and the Haval H9 seven-seat SUV.

“GWM’s first plant in Brazil and the Americas is inaugurated. From the grand press conference to the first car #HAVALH6 rolling off the line, every detail is a moment to cherish.”

“With GWM Brazil, we show the world we’ll lead the shift to a cleaner, more tech-driven, competitive fleet—opportunities for all.GWM Brasil,” the company said.

Formerly owned by Mercedes-Benz parent, Daimler (now Mercedes-Benz Group AG), the new GWM facility has the capacity to manufacture up to 50,000 vehicles per year. The facility has a total area of 1.2 million square meters and a built area of 94,000 square meters.

Ahead of opening of its Brazil plant, the Chinese auto giant shared part of an in-depth report on GWM’s Brazil plant published by The New York Times widely recognized as one of the world’s great newspapers.

The article stated: “Its goal is to reinvent the way Brazil drives, and ultimately, the rest of Latin America, much as Chinese automakers have already done across much of Asia and want to do in Europe.”

Earlier this month, GWM officially announced its entry into the lucrative supercar segment that is currently dominated by Yangwang in China. The Chinese automaker now boasts over 15 million global users, more than 1,400 overseas sales outlets, and total overseas sales exceeding 2 million units.
