China’s GWM Enters Luxury Supercar Segment – Teases Its First Supercar To Rival BYD’s Yangwang U9

China’s GWM enters luxury supercar segment – teases its first supercar to rival BYD’s Yangwang U9.
GWM is yet to say anything about its first supercar, but it may launch under its new high-end sub-brand called “Confidence Auto”.
Its first supercar will likely adopt the company’s self-developed 4-litre V8 engine released at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show.
Chinese automaker, Great Wall Motor (GWM), has officially announced its entry into the lucrative supercar segment that is currently dominated by Yangwang in China as well as foreign brands like Lamborghini and Ferrari in the global market.
A single photo posted alongside the announcement on its official social media pages shows Chairman Wei Jianjun with the company executives posing alongside a car hidden under a cover.
Caption with “GWM enters luxury supercar arena”, the teaser image, released to celebrate Wei Jianjun’s 35th anniversary as GWM chairman, gives a glimpse of an upc low-slung supercar that may rival $239k YangWang U9 from China.
“Today, the Chairman of GWM, Jack Wey, commemorated the company’s 35th anniversary with senior leadership, expressing gratitude to employees and expressed the hope that they will continue to work hard in vehicle manufacturing to serve users,” GWM said.
The Chinese brand is yet to say anything about its first supercar, but CarNewsChina report suggest that the upcoming model will launch under GWM’s soon to be launched new high-end sub-brand called “Confidence Auto”.
GWM’s first supercar will likely adopt the company’s self-developed 4-litre V8 engine, which was officially released at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show in April. Major sub-brands under GWM includes HAVAL, WEY, TANK, ORA, POER and SOUO.
