Ford Gives The Popular F-150 Truck More V8 Options
The American and European car markets are drifting further and further apart. This is also evident in the presentation of the latest version of the Ford F-150, which is getting more V8 options.
The Ford F-Series remains by far the most popular ‘car’ in the US. ‘Car’ is in parentheses here because in the US this is also considered a ‘truck,’ but Ford’s pickups are also significantly more popular than the most popular four-wheelers that we would all generally classify as cars. This includes the heavier F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550, although the F-150 reportedly accounts for well over half of the total, and the heavier models are essentially variations on the same theme.
Ford is now presenting the 2027 model year specifically for the F-150. This minor news is really only relevant because this vehicle is so immensely popular in America, although there are indeed interesting changes. For instance, Ford is making BlueCruise compatible with trailers, making it possible for the first time to drive hands-free with a trailer attached. This is important, as F-150 drivers often tow trailers and naturally want to enjoy the benefits of this feature. Furthermore, Ford is delivering not fewer, but actually more models with a V8 in the coming year. The V8 engine is currently optional in the F-150 but will now be available on all versions of the model. This is the first time since 2023, as Ford is adding the King Ranch and Platinum to the V8 options for 2027.
The base engine is entirely new, by the way. The 2.7-liter V6 makes way for a 3.0-liter V6, which, with 325 horsepower, is certainly no slouch. Above that sits the 5.0-liter V8 with 400 hp, just as powerful as the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, which has more torque and can tow slightly more. Additionally, there is once again a full hybrid option, also with a V6 and 430 hp. At the top of the range sits a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 with 720 hp. That is reserved for the mighty Raptor R, while the regular Raptor gets a 450 hp 3.5 V6.
