The world’s largest plane Antonov An-225 Mriya, suffers minor damage during landing at polish airport.

Antonov has confirmed that the damage on the An-225 has been fixed and the plane is ready to continue her mission.

The Antonov An-225 Mriya is equipped with six engines and 16 pairs of landing gear wheels.

The undisputed largest cargo aircraft has an internal cargo volume of 1,200 cubic meters.





It is capable of lifting a maximum 551,155 lb (275 tons), nearly double that of Boeing 747-8 freighter.

The World’s largest aircraft, the Antonov An-225 Mriya, full of supplies, suffered a mechanical problem with its landing gear after touching down at Rzeszow Airport in Poland, last week Saturday.

The incident occurred on the morning of January 9, 2022, as the monster cargo aircraft was landing at Rzeszow airport on its flight from Istanbul.

In a statement, the Antonov company said :

“On January 9, 2022, while the AN-225 aircraft landing at Rzeszów airport, Poland, on a starboard main landing gear strut the bolts fixing the landing gear position sensor “flight-ground” were damaged.

“The detected malfunction did not affect the safety of flight and landing of aircraft. After replacement of the damaged bolts, the aircraft will be fully operational. The AN-225 will continue its commercial flight.”





According to reports, Antonov flew in its maintenance team shortly after onboard an Antonov An-26, where the necessary repairs were carried out.

The Antonov Company has also confirmed in a tweet that the damage on the An-225 has been fixed and the plane is ready to continue her mission.

“Owing to the effective coordinated teamwork of the #ANTONOV Company’s departments and high skill of the specialists, airworthiness of the #AN225 aircraft has been fully recovered.

AN-225 Mriya safety continues its commercial mission to #China.”

The Antonov An-225 Mriya, equipped with six engines and 16 pairs of landing gear wheels, is the undisputed largest cargo aircraft in the world.

Only one AN-225 was built by Antonov. According to the operator, Antonov Airlines, the huge cargo plane has an internal cargo volume of 1,200 cubic meters, or 42,377 cubic feet. It is capable of lifting a maximum 551,155 pounds, or 275 tons, nearly double that of Boeing 747-8 freighter.

The Antonov An-225, an enlargement of the successful Antonov An-124, was originally designed by the Soviet Union to transport the country’s Buran space shuttle.

Mriya is larger than America’s largest cargo plane, the C-5M Super Galaxy. The C-5M Super Galaxy is normally used to ferry the US Presidents fleets, including a pair of Beasts limousines.
