The teenager wanted a Mercedes when he reached driving age, and his older brother promised he’d have one.

The 14/15 year old Chinese-American car enthusiast passed away while attending school in Hong Kong in 1981.

At the time, the full-size Mercedes 240 Diesel limo Granite Tombstone cost about $250k (about $773k in 2022) to make.

Per Findagrave.com, the 14/15 year old Chinese-American car enthusiast, Raymond “Ray” Tse, passed away from an unspecified illness while attending school in Hong Kong in 1981.

Following his demise, his remains were sent over to New Jersey, where his big brother David, a New York businessman, lived at the time. To fulfill his last wish, David ordered Michael DiPiazza to produce an exact replica of a Mercedes 240D stretch limousine.

At the time, the full-size Mercedes 240 Diesel limo Granite Tombstone cost about $250,000 (about $773,000 in 2022) to make and around 17-18 months for Ages Quarry of Graniteville to complete.

“The story goes,” says Scott Rahenfuher of Rosedale Cemetery, adding that “the boy wanted a Mercedes when he reached driving age, and his older brother promised he’d have one.”

“They had the car right in front of them,” Rahenfuher continued. “What they produced is an exact replica, from the headlights to the grill work, the tail pipes and the windshield wipers.

According to report, the family requested not carving out the 3-point Star hood ornament and the sideview mirrors because they believed they could be vandalized or stolen.
