This Rolls-Royce Phantom V sedan used by PM Tafa Balewa as official car in Nigeria came up for sale in France in 2011. 

Bernard King and Barbara Westlake from Rolls-Royce club confirms that the Phantom was delivered new to Nigeria in 1960.

It likely arrived ahead of the inauguration of Alhaji Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa as Prime Minister of Nigeria.

The ultra-luxury Rolls-Royce Phantom V, with chassis #5AT96, is a 4-door saloon with a separate chauffer section.





Inside, inlaid wood bears the arms of the Republic of Nigeria, while the coat of arms of Nigeria are found on the doors.

We can’t how much was later paid for this Rolls-Royce, then, the French auctioneer estimated between €70,000 – €90,000.

Back in 2011, a customized 1960 Rolls-Royce Phantom V luxury sedan used by the first and only Prime Minister of Nigeria, Alhaji Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, as an official car came up for sale in far away France.

The custom Phantom V, with chassis #5AT96, is a 4-door saloon with a separate chauffer section. Inside, the rear compartment offers unheard-of luxury, boasting of A.C as well as port cabinet on the left and wine cabinet on the right.

Offering this piece of automotive memorabilia from Nigeria is Paris-based auction house, ARTCURIAL. We can’t say how much was later paid for this iconic Rolls-Royce, then, the French auctioneer estimated that the Phantom will sell for between €70,000 – €90,000.
