This week, Automobili Lamborghini remembered the stunning Egoista with a series of photos on its social media pages. Unveiled in 2013 to celebrate the brand’s 50th anniversary, the fully functioning model boasts a design inspired by fighter jets.

This one-of-one concept car was designed by Walter Maria de Silva, who was responsible for the overall strategic design direction of all VW passenger car brands, including SEAT, Volkswagen, Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, and Bugatti.

“I am very attached to this Italian brand, being an Italian myself. I wanted to pay homage to and think up a vehicle to underline the fact that Lamborghinis have always been made with passion, and with the heart more than the head,” De Silva said at the unveiling.

The name “Egoista” literally translates to “selfish” in Italian—a fitting title for a single-seater machine that looks less like a supercar and more like a stealth fighter jet for the road, thanks to its highly angular, muscular body panels, which are covered in radar-absorbent military paint.

Instead of traditional doors, the Egoista features a striking, orange-tinted glass canopy that tilts forward. To enter or exit the single-seat cockpit, the driver must remove the steering wheel, step onto the bodywork, and slide into the cockpit.

Beneath its aggressive exterior lies a modified Gallardo chassis. The Egoista is propelled by a ferocious 5.2-litre V10 engine from the Gallardo that pumps out 600 horsepower.

For over a decade, the Egoista was a permanent crown jewel at the Lamborghini Museum in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy. However, industry rumors surfaced claiming it was secretly sold to a private collector in early 2025 for a record-breaking $117 million—a claim Lamborghini has neither confirmed nor denied.

“If Lamborghinis are cars for the few, this one goes further. It is a car for itself, a gift from Lamborghini to Lamborghini,” de Silva said at the unveiling, while describing the Egoista, which remains one of the most exclusive and radically designed hypercars in automotive history.
