Toyota Limits Its GR GT Sports Car To Only 500 Units Worldwide
The latest reports from the Japanese automotive media say that only about 500 buyers will be able to count on Toyota’s homologation “special car” GR GT globally.
No one should be surprised that the super sports two-seater GR GT that will be able to be driven (and) on public roads globally will be offered in a fairly small number of copies, because the model behind which Toyota’s racing department Gazoo Racing stands from start to finish primarily has the role of a necessary homologation “special” based on which Toyota will soon have a GT3 category racing car on tracks around the world.
The spiritual successor of the two-seater LFA with a wonderful naturally aspirated V10 engine, which Toyota’s sub-brand Lexus once produced in only 500 copies, should reach the first customers before the end of next year. The official price has not yet been announced, but it is already widely mentioned that the GR GT (which may be available in combination with movable roof panels) will cost around 200,000 euros.
And while Lexus announces that before the end of the decade they will offer a new generation LFA that should be driven only by electric motors, Toyota’s atypical new product and future GT3 “weapon” in the hands of Gazoo Racing team racers brings with it a 4-liter V8 biturbo engine with the assistance of one electric motor.
Located in the space between the front axle and the passenger compartment, the engine develops 650 horsepower and 850 Nm of maximum torque, which is distributed to the rear axle by an 8-speed automatic transmission. Enough for the GR GT (which can also be seen as a result of Toyota’s many successes in the World Endurance Championship) to reach 100 km/h in about three seconds and reach 320 km/h.
If Lexus dealers once sweated over finding buyers for the expensive “alien” LFA, we highly doubt that they will have similar problems in the Toyota sales network.
