Toyota Made Changes To The Land Cruiser 250 (Prado) Security Features
Toyota presented a slight refresh of the Land Cruiser 250 on the Japanese market, but behind the seemingly modest changes, there are very specific reasons—primarily security and the fight against theft.
Namely, this legendary SUV has been among the most stolen cars in Japan for years, which is why Toyota has now additionally strengthened its protection.
At first glance, the design has remained almost unchanged. The Land Cruiser still retains its rugged, boxy look, and the updates come down to a few new colors. The offer now includes Neutral Black, which replaces the previous black, and a new sandy shade without a contrasting roof.
Customers can also choose from different light signatures. The round LED lights, which were previously reserved for special versions, are now also available in the higher equipment package, giving the model a retro look that many adore.
But the real changes lie beneath the surface. Toyota has significantly improved safety systems. The VX model now comes with the Toyota Teammate Advanced Drive package, which includes traffic jam assist, camera driver monitoring, forward traffic alert, lane change assist, and collision avoidance assist.
New smart key system
Great emphasis is also placed on protection against theft. The new smart key system prevents the vehicle from being unlocked or started if the key is not in proximity. In addition, owners can remotely immobilize the engine via the T-Connect system.
Practical improvements have also been added to the interior—the driver’s seat now has eight-way power adjustment and memory, while the front passenger gets four-way power adjustment.
There are no changes under the hood. The Land Cruiser is still powered by a 2.7-liter petrol engine with 160 horsepower and 246 Nm, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and permanent four-wheel drive.
Interestingly, these innovations are now only available for the petrol version, while the more powerful diesel model will arrive only after December 2026.
The price in Japan starts at around $36,200, a slight increase over its predecessor.
