Volvo Recorded Poor Sales Last Month But Saw A Rise In EV Demands
Volvo recorded a 10 percent drop in sales in November this year, selling 60,244 vehicles, compared to the same period last year. This information was published in the company’s press release, which also mentions contradictory trends in the market.
Despite the overall decline, Volvo recorded significant growth in the segment of fully electric vehicles. Sales of these models increased by four percent, which is twice as much compared to November of the previous year. Electric cars now account for a significant 24 percent of the auto giant’s total sales.
However, when looking at electrified vehicles as a whole, including hybrids, sales fell by five percent. This category, which was once a significant driver of sales, now accounts for about half of Volvo’s total sales.
Eric Severinson, Volvo’s Chief Commercial Officer, emphasized that these November sales results indicate the challenges the company is facing. According to him, the decline in sales reflects “ongoing structural and transformational challenges that weigh on Volvo Cars, as well as the industry in a broader sense.” It is not specified which specific challenges are in question, but it can be assumed that these are supply chain problems, inflation, and changes in consumer preferences.
Volvo, which is majority owned by the Chinese group Geely Holding, is actively transforming itself towards the production of electric vehicles and investing in sustainable technologies. The growth in sales of all-electric models indicates that the company is making progress in this direction, despite ongoing challenges.
Although Volvo recorded a decline in the number of cars sold in November, the growth in sales of all-electric vehicles is an encouraging signal for the future of the company. Challenges remain, but Volvo’s strategy to focus on electrification appears to be paying off, albeit more slowly than expected.
