Finished in White over red leather with black Landaulet top. Retains its matching-numbers 6.3-litre V8 engine.

A 1974 Mercedes-Benz 600 ‘Six-Door’ Pullman Landaulet, an extraordinary example of Mercedes-Benz’s most exclusive creation, fetched €1,355,000 EUR ($1.4 Million) during a RM Sotheby’s Paris Auction held on February 5th.

One of just 26 built, this ultra-rare “six-door, short roof” Pullman Landaulet was delivered new as an official state limousine to the government of Portuguese Guinea (Guinea-Bissau) during its revolutionary struggle in early 1974.

Equipped with exterior handles on the middle door, the exclusive flagship luxury limousine is finished in White (050) over pristine red leather upholstery with black Landaulet top and black leather tonneau cover.

This custom-built State limousine was constructed on an imposing 3,900-millimetre chassis. It retained its matching-numbers 6.3-litre V8 engine.

According to RM Sotheby’s listing, this 600 Pullman Landaulet remained in Africa for an unknown period before making its way to the United States, where it registered in California by 1991.

It lived in California until 2003 before being imported to Germany. In April 2010, it was purchased by a resident of Böblingen, who enjoyed it without issue until 2019, when he commissioned 600 guru to execute a €280,000 mechanical restoration.

Produced by Daimler-Benz from 1963 to 1981, the Mercedes-Benz 600, dubbed the Grosser Mercedes (Grand Mercedes), was forerunner of the modern Mercedes-Maybach marque. It was well known for its ownership among celebrities, political leaders and royalty throughout the late 20th century.
