LASTMA : 7,000 Vehicles Arrested Through Physical Enforcement Betw Jan-June, 54,000 Vehicles Through TMS

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) says that over 7,000 vehicles were arrested for various traffic offences in the first six months (between January and June) of 2025 through physical enforcement.

During this period (H1), the State Traffic Management agency also said over 54,000 vehicles were captured through the use of technology, specifically Traffic Management Solutions (TMS).

“Over 1,000 vehicles were removed from the road, and over 700 road traffic crashes occurred,” Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, LASTMA GM said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

To ensure optimal service delivery, LASTMA boss said that the authority prioritized the training, noting that a year-long training, which began in January, is currently on for its officers.

Court Affirms FRSC’s Power To Sanction Motorists With Non-reflective, Hand-painted Number Plate

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has welcomed a recent Federal High Court judgement that reaffirmed its authority to penalise motorists who violate traffic regulations, particularly those involving vehicle number plate standards.

The landmark judgement was delivered on 23rd June, 2025 by Honourable Justice Musa Kakaki of the Federal High Court, Lagos, in Suit Number FHC/L/CS/2367/2024 between Ojo Victor Olomi versus Federal Road Safety Commission.

According to a statement on August 7th by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the Court dismissed the Olomi’s claim challenging the legality of the fine imposed and the confiscation of his driver’s licence by officials of the Corps.

The case arose from Olomi’s use of non-reflective, hand-painted number plate, which contravenes the National Road Traffic Regulations 2016 that stipulates that all vehicle number plates must remain reflective for visibility, security and enforcement purposes.

LAMATA Raises Blue Line Daily Trips From 72 To 90, Cuts Travel Time From 18 Mins To Just 10 Mins

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has announced that starting from Monday 11th August 2025, the daily frequency of trips of the Blue Line between Marina and Mile 2 will increase from 72 to 90 on Mondays to Saturdays.

LAMATA says that the increase in daily trips facilitated by the new rolling stock procured by the Lagos State Government will also reduce travel time from the current 18 minutes to just 10 minutes.

To achieve the 90 trips daily, LAMATA said four train sets will be deployed during the morning and evening peak hours, while two trains will cater to the commuters during off-peak hours.

The Blue Line has moved over 5 million passengers since it commenced passenger operation nearly two years ago on 4th September 2023.

Indiscriminate Parking : LASPA Clamps Down On Offending Vehicles In Ikeja

As part of efforts to rid of all forms of traffic congestion in the state, the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has extended its operations across the Ikeja axis, a week after it began the enforcement on indiscriminate parking of vehicles within the State Secretariat in Alausa.

The enforcement exercise was part of efforts by the Lagos State Government to address the challenges of indiscriminate parking, which contributes to traffic congestion and delivers a more parking culture.

The enforcement of illegal parking on the roads implemented by LASPA covered the following locations : Computer Village, Allen Avenue, Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, GRA Ikeja, White House Event Centre on Billings Way, and other areas in Ikeja.

LASPA urged all motorists in Lagos to ensure strict compliance with the State Parking Regulations as no part of the State will be left out in the ongoing enforcement.
