Palm Beach County Fire Rescue (PBCFR) responded to a call from a Florida-based dealership this week after its elevator malfunctioned, causing a silver Ferrari Roma sports car worth $250,000 to hang in the elevator shaft.

The impact of the crash led to a fuel leak from the Ferrari Roma which had a 18-gallon fuel tank. Sharing pictures taking at the crash scene, PBCFR said all power to the building was shut off and portable standpipe system installed to reduce the risk of fire.

This was followed by a special operation work with Kauff’s Towing company, which used a brand-new wrecker, a 45-foot boom lift, and multiple 50,000 pound winches to lift the 3,461 pounds car out of the elevator.

“Special Operations worked with Kauff’s Towing and their new rotator wrecker to remove the car from the elevator,” PCBFR said in a statement, adding that the entire recovery operation took around four hours.

Luckily, no one was injured during the incident, but the same cannot be said for the battered Italian sports car, which primarily suffered a rear-end damage as well as damages to the hood and roof.

Valued around $250,000 brand new, the mid-front-engined Ferrari Roma is powered by a turbocharged 3.9-liter V-8 engine, churning out 612-horsepower and 560 lb-ft of torque, allowing the prancing horse to get from 0 to 62 mph in 3.4 seconds.
