Parts from the global agency’s vehicles, including Toyota SUV and pickup truck were carted away by vandals.

The United Nations (UN) on Sunday condemned attacks on its assets in Calabar by vandals who were out to discredit the peaceful protests to end police brutality.

A picture posted by UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Edward Kallon, on his verified Twitter handle, shows suspects removing a spare tyre from one of the global agency’s Toyota vehicles.

Another picture posted by the UN chief shows vandals open the bonnet of an already stripped down pickup truck vehicle.

Kallon, in a tweet, said :

“The @UN_Nigeria strongly condemns attacks on its assets in #Calabar by vandals who were out to discredit the peaceful protests to end police brutality.

“I call on youths to exercise restraints and engage in dialogue with the government on their legitimate demands.”

In a related news… The Cross River State government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the state starting from 6 pm on Friday.

The curfew follows “the hijacking of the peaceful protest against police brutality in the state by hoodlums.”; according to a statement signed by the Special Adviser Media and Publicity to the governor, Christian Ita.

“Residents are advised to observe the curfew as security agents have been mandated to arrest anybody who flouts it,”
