A giant sinkhole opened up in a hospital’s visitors’ car park in Naples, Italy, in the early hours of Friday January 8th, swallowing several cars.

Early reports suggests the huge sinkhole, which measured about 22,000 square feet across and 66 feet deep, was caused by the water infiltration from the heavy rains of the last two weeks.

“It’s almost certain that the rainwater from these past few days caused the seepage that resulted in the collapse,”

According to Naples Police, technical experts have been appointed to ascertain the causes of the collapse.
