China’s Hongqi First Hired Rolls-Royce Design Boss, Now Former Ferrari CEO Joins Its Supercar Project
China Hongqi’s parent company, FAW, hires former Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa for its supercar project.
Felisa will work as special advisor to the Silk-FAW joint venture’s executive chairman and member of the senior advisory board.
Silk-FAW aims to develop a series of ultra-luxury, high-performance, sports vehicles for the China and global markets.
It plans to launch the new full electric and hybrid luxury models under the Hongqi ‘S’ series.
Recall that FAW has earlier hired ex-Rolls-Royce design boss, Gilles Taylor former.
Hongqi’s current design boss, Taylor, was the brain behind the current Rolls-Royce Phantom 8.
Silk-FAW has appointed former Ferrari CEO and Board Member Amedeo Felisa as special advisor to the joint venture’s executive chairman and member of the senior advisory board.
Felisa has over 40 years of experience in the high-performance luxury car industry. The 75 year old is expected to contribute greatly to the brand with his 26 years of experience working for the Prancing Horse.
In an official press release, Silk-FAW, a joint venture between Italy’s Silk EV and FAW, China’s largest car manufacturer and Hongqi parent company, disclosed that Felisa :
“Will be involved in setting global strategy for the company and will provide oversight on all elements of the execution of the company’s business plan.”
“We are delighted to welcome Amedeo Felisa to the SILK–FAW team,” executive chairman of Silk-FAW, Jonathan Krane, said.
“Amedeo is one of the greatest automotive executives in the world and has a reputation for producing a portfolio of cars that have set the standard for both performance, luxury and design. His experience in Italy’s Motor Valley will be instrumental for the growth of our project.”

The Silk-FAW Joint Venture aims to develop a series of ultra-luxury, high-performance, new energy sports vehicles for the China and global markets.
It plans to launch the new full electric and hybrid luxury models under the Hongqi ‘S’ series – the first model of this series will be the ultra-luxury hypercar, the $1.45 million S9.
The Hongqi S9 will be designed and manufactured in Regione Emilia-Romagna, the heart of Italy’s
Motor Valley, where Silk EV has its headquarters.
The first of the ‘S’ series, the 1,400-horsepower Hongqi S9, designed by former Volkswagen Group design chief Walter de Silva, was revealed in earlier this year. De Silva, who will be designing Hongqi’s entire ‘S’ lineup, is now working as Silk-FAW’s vice president of styling and design.
