A pair of remarkable pictures has shown how the once desert city of Dubai, the capital of United Arab Emirates, has changed in a relatively short amount of time.
The two pictures were taking from the same angle, and it compares and contrast how the once desert city has transformed in the past 35 years.

The flashing neon Toyota advertisement was on the Nasser Rashid Lootah Building for almost 40 years until its removal in May 2018.
One of the pictures, alleged to be taken 1986, has few buildings and roads while the other taken in 2016 features skyscrapers, bright lights and huge highways.
But a structure that has remained unchanged in the two pictures is a iconic building popularly known as The Toyota Building.
The building, located in Sheikh Zayed Road, is one of two 15-storey residential buildings that was built in 1974, just three years after the foundation of the United Arab Emirates.
But The Toyota Building is officially known as the Nasser Rashid Lootah Building, and has nothing to do with the Japanese automobile company, other than the flashing neon Toyota advertisement that was on its roof for almost 40 years until its removal in May 2018.
