“Blue Wonder” Transporter Provided Fast Transport For Mercedes-Benz Racing Cars In The 1950s

The Mercedes-Benz “Blue Wonder” Racing-car transporter built as an one-off based on a 300 SL Gullwing.
Blue Wonder was used to quickly transport Racing Cars to and from the race track.
Back in the 1950s, the Mercedes-Benz Formula 1 team had a super-fast racing-car transporter that was built as an one-off based on a 300 SL Gullwing.
Christened the “Blue Wonder”, the transporter provided high-speed transport for Mercedes-Benz racing team between the race track and the factory, especially when the team had to repair its race car as quickly as possible before the next race.
The racing-car transporter features the chassis of the Mercedes-Benz 300 S which has been replaced by a forward-positioned cab.
It was powered by the 3-litre six-cylinder engine with direct injection that also featured in the 300 SL sports car.
At the end of its active service, the original One-off super-fast racing-car transporter was used for road tests before being scrapped in 1967.
After seven years of rebuilding work, an authentic reconstruction of the racing-car transporter was unveiled in 2001 by Mercedes-Benz Classic.
