Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) Solicits Support To Address Illegal Parking-induced Traffic

Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) solicits citizens’ support to address illegal parking which impedes free flow of traffic.

LASPA noted that illegal parking has greatly contributed to traffic congestion, traffic accidents and environmental pollution.

The agency aims to address parking space issues to reduce travel time on Lagos roads in the short and long term.

LASPA calls on all park operators, both commercial and non-commercial, to register with the agency for operating permits.

The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has solicited the support of Lagosians in its quest to regulate all forms of illegal parking which has continued to impede the free flow of traffic in Lagos State.

The General Manager of LASPA, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, made the plea while speaking on the mandate of her agency. She noted that parking problems have been one of the lingering issues affecting the socio-economic development of Lagos.

While disclosing that the agency has a vision of delivering a world-class parking scheme for residents in the State, Mrs. Adelabu said there is a need for the provision of real-time parking information for vehicle owners to improve the overall quality of the parking system in Lagos.

Mrs. Adelabu stated that in line with the Traffic Management and Transportation Pillar of the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda, LASPA aims to address parking space issues to reduce travel time on Lagos roads in the short and long term.

She maintained that the imbalance between parking demands and available parking spaces has been the main reason for the metropolis’ parking problems. She noted that this has greatly contributed to traffic congestion, traffic accidents and environmental pollution.

Emphasising the agency’s commitment to addressing the protracted problem, the General Manager maintained that LASPA is determined to optimise the available street parking spaces and setback options. This is in addition to registering existing private parks operators to maximise urban public spaces towards finding lasting solutions to parking-induced traffic.

While urging Lagosians to shun any act of indiscriminate parking that has continued to exacerbate the traffic situation across the metropolis, the LASPA Boss called on all park operators, both commercial and non-commercial, to register with the agency for operating permits. It added that the enforcement which was earlier slated for February 2022 has been shifted to 1st March 2022 to give room for further conformity and adherence.
