This Delorean DMC-12 “Back to the Future” Allows Occupants To Travel Through Time
This Delorean DMC-12 “Back to the Future” car allows its occupants to travel through time.
The DeLorean DMC-12 Time Machine boasts about 1.21 gigawatts of power (1,620,000 hp)
The operator needs to accelerate the car to 88 miles per hour (141.6 km/h) to initiate time travel.

The DeLorean DMC-12 time machine, made famous by the 1985 blockbuster, Back to the Future, counts amongst few of the world’s most recognisable automobile icon.
The Time Machine boasted 1.21 Gigawatts of power (1,620,000 hp), and it could be programmed to jump backwards and forwards in time as soon as it reached a speed of 88 mph. It allows its occupants to travel through time along with the car.

Despite making the 1985 movie a blockbuster, the 1981 model DMC-12 couldn’t save the automaker and John Delorean had to declare bankruptcy in 1983.
Just 8,500 DeLoreans were built, approximately 122 of which are known to be converted to Back to the Future Time Machine replicas by fans. After the trilogy was filmed, the original movie car went on display at Universal Studios Hollywood. Over time, the DeLorean became damaged by fans who took parts as souvenirs.

In 2012, the stainless steel time machine was restored by a group of volunteers led by Joe Walser, who is a Back to the Future Time Machine replica expert.
The Time Machine car, still owned by Universal Studios, is now on permanent display at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles since 2016.

“The Back to the Future films are part of Universal Studios’ legacy, and we take enormous pride in preserving its history,” said Larry Kurzweil, President of Universal Studios Hollywood.
“From the original movie sets on the Universal backlot to the DeLorean that has been on display for guests from around the world to enjoy, the films continue to resonate and we are incredibly pleased to share this iconic hero car with the Petersen Automotive Museum to enable future generations to go back to the future.”
