In China, Drivers Will Rather Hit-to-kill You Than Leave You Injured : Here Is The ‘Lawful’ Reason
In China, if you hit a pedestrian with your car, you must pay for the person’s medical care for the rest of their lives.
However, if you kill a pedestrian with your car, you only pay a one time
fee.
That’s why it is fairly common for people to go back and kill someone they accidentally hit.

In China, due to codified laws on victim compensation, if you hit and kill a pedestrian, you can expect a one-time payment of $30 to $50k to the victim’s family. Once this payment is made, the authorities consider the matter closed.
However, let’s say you only hit and injured a pedestrian, you would be required to care for him/her, and his/her disability, for their entire life.
One of several cases caught on camera
Back in 2010, a security footage shows a man driving a BMW backed out of a parking spot and accidentally struck a 3-year-old boy.
After the collision, rather than check to see if the boy was alright, the man proceeded to roll his car over the boy’s skull several times before driving off.
As it is now, China is unlikely to give up the practice of covering years worth of medical expenses. Even the Chinese language has an adage for the phenomenon :
“It is better to hit to kill than to hit and injure”.
