Geely-owned Lotus To Keep Making Sports Cars In The UK, Debunks Reports Of Plant Closure

Geely-owned Lotus Cars said it will keep making Sports Cars in the UK, debunks reports of plant closure.

Lotus said that UK remains home to its sports car manufacturing and its largest commercial market in Europe.

Adds that the company have invested significantly in R&D and operations in the UK over the past six years. 

Lotus’ Norfolk site in UK currently build the petrol-powered Emira sports car and pure electric Evija hypercar.

Geely-owned British luxury marque, Lotus Cars, has debunked recent media reports of plans to end production of sports cars at its UK plant in Norfolk and shift it to the US, a move that will surely be a major blow to the British car industry.

In a statement, Lotus notes that UK remains the heart of the Lotus brand and home to its sports car manufacturing and global design centre, adding that it is also the brand’s largest commercial market in Europe.

“Lotus Cars is continuing normal operations, and there are no plans to close the factory. We are actively exploring strategic options to enhance efficiency and ensure global competitiveness in the evolving market.

“We have invested significantly in R&D and operations in the UK, over the past six years. Lotus remains committed to the UK, and its customers, employees, dealers, suppliers, as well as its proud British heritage.”

Lotus’ Norfolk site in UK currently build the petrol-powered Emira sports car and pure electric Evija hypercar. Since taking over Lotus, Geely has shifted its focus to home country of China, where it makes its electric Eletre SUV.
