King Charles Orders Lotus Eletre EV, Sparking Speculation He Will Ditch His Bentley State Limo
King Charles orders British-made Lotus Eletre electric car, sparking speculation he will ditch the Bentley State limousine.
Charles intends to use his top-spec Lotus Eletre Electric Car as a personal runaround on one of his country estates.
Like the two Bentley State limousines, the new Lotus Eletre will be painted in traditional Royal Claret.
The all-electric ‘hyper-SUV’ combines both supercar performance and green credentials, offers up to 319 miles.

King Charles III has reportedly splashed out a staggering £160,000 on a brand new Lotus Eletre, sparking speculation he will ditch the iconic gas-guzzling Bentley State Limousines he inherited from his late mother.
According to report, Charles, famed for his passion for the environment, intends to use his top-spec Lotus Eletre Electric Car as a personal runaround on one of his country estates.

The British-made all-electric ‘hyper-SUV’ combines both supercar performance and green credentials and offers a claimed range of up to 513 kilometres (319 miles) on a single charge.

Like the two Bentley State limousines and the other classic Rolls-Royce Phantoms kept in the royal mews, the new Lotus Eletre will be painted in traditional Royal Claret.
Per The Sun, an insider said: “The King has always liked eco-friendly vehicles but seems conscious that royal claret is the right look even when off-duty.

“It will look far more professional for the King’s personal car to match the state vehicles…The fact Lotus can produce an electric SUV in royal claret really puts them in the driving seat.
“The Palace has hinted that if Bentley can’t make limousines for official use run on electric, then they would look at other manufacturers…The Royal Family had a Lotus Eletre last year on loan and it clearly ticked some boxes.”

Last year, Charles revealed plans to convert his two Bentley State limousines to run on biofuel within the next year as part of his long term sustainability goal to switch his official fleet to electric vehicles.
The plans, revealed in the annual Sovereign Grant report released in July 2024, will see the two bespoke Bentleys switch to biofuel as an ‘interim measure’ while the Palace ‘begin discussions around the next generation of state vehicles being fully electrified’.
